Today at 10:00 a.m. the plane of International Ukrainian Airlines, on board of which His All Holiness Bartholomew, Archbishop of Constantinople -New Rome arrived, landed at the airport ‘Boryspil' of the capital. The high guest was met by the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, His Beatitude Hieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko, Head of the President's Secretariat Victor Baloga, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Raisa Bogatyriova, Minister of Defense Yuriy Ekhanurov, Deputy Head of Security Service of Ukraine Valentin Nalyvaychenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuriy Kostenko, ex-president of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, people's deputies and representatives of the UOC, the UAOC and the UGCC.The delegation of the Ecumenical Patriarchate arrived with Patriarch Bartholomew. Security of the Ecumenical Patriarchate's delegation is ensured by 7 thousand law enforcement officers. Traffic circulation at Boryspil airport and in the center of the capital is restricted. His All Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew addressed with a word of greeting to the President of Ukraine and the receiving line. "We have come, together with our esteemed entourage, as bearers of the Mother Church's blessing, the Holy and Great Church of Christ, to her beloved children here to whom she has given birth in Christ one thousand and twenty years ago. We have come as pilgrims and admirers of Ukraine's eternal glory", said Patriarch Bartholomew I. He told that the delegation of Constantinople arrived "asking the blessing of St. Vladimir and the countless other saints, ascetics, and confessors of your country and honoring the memory of those who were martyred during the difficult years of the atheistic regime. We have come to bow our heads before the tragic victims of the Holodomor.".Patriarch Bartholomew assured that the aim of his visit was "with you for the unification of all Orthodox Citizens of Ukraine to one Church, the Church of your people, the Church of your country". "We have come as angels of peace and preachers of unity, reconciliation and peace". "Having glorified God, the Giver of every good, we thank His Excellency, President Viktor Yushchenko for his kind and honoring invitation, as well as His Beatitude and Holiness Patriarch Alexei II, the concelebration with whom we joyfully anticipate", added His All Holiness. Patriarch also addressed all faithful of Ukraine: "We are glad to be able to look at your faces. We pray that God may protect you and grant prosperity and peace to your country. We thank you for your warm reception, a reception fitting to children for their father. We bless you from our heart, personally and on behalf of the Church of Constantinople, the Church that became your Mother ten centuries ago and remains today and always your Mother. A Mother that cares for you, loves you, rejoices with your joy and is saddened by your sadness". "Brothers and Children! Christ is in our midst by the intercession of St. Vladimir. Peace be to all!" - Patriarch Bartholomew gave his archpastoral blessing. Today President of Ukraine and Ecumenical patriarch will attend the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, take part in the ceremony of laying flowers to the monuments of princess Olga, Sts. Cyril and Methodius, Apostle Andrew the First-Called and the Holy Prince Vladimir. Today at 18:00 Patriarch Bartholomew will perform vesper service at St. Sophia Cathedral on the occasion of 1020th anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus, at which the President of Ukraine will be present. Also the arrival of the Patriarchs of Antioch and Jerusalem is expected.
